1972 Chevrolet Caprice

This car was purchased new by my Grandparents Evelyn and Peter. They wanted something that would make the trip between Michigan and Flordia in comfort and they did that trip many times in this car.

After my Grandma passed away, I was given the choice to keep the '64 BelAir or the Caprice, which ever one I didn't want would go.

The choice between a car with no power (anything) and a V8, airconditioned cruiser wasn't much of a choice.

I drove this car for my last year in High School and then took it up to Michigan Tech where it made many trips between Houghton and Grand Blanc (mostly in the snow). It then made the trip with most of my worldly possessions from Michigan to California.

The only major problem with the car happened on one of the trips from Houghton to Grand Blanc. While driving through the Upper Peneslia we started to smell smoke as as soon as I pulled over, the interior filled with smoke. The motor for the power seat has shorted and the smoke was from the wire insulation burning. Eventually, the airconditioning also failed (while in California).

The car met its demise when the right rear tire blew while taking a corner, causing the car to spin and hit a telephone pole. That broke a window, crushed the rear door/quater panel and bent the rear axle. At that point the damage was more than enough to total the car.
