Bob's Buick Restoration

I'm working on restoring a 1971 Buick Skylark Custom. It is getting done by bits and pieces. The body work, paint, vinyl top, front end, and exhaust, are done. The dash is mostly done. I've started on the interior. The headliner, carpet, and rear package shelf have been replaced. The front seats are trash, but sheepskin covers hide most of that. The back seat is stained and a little cracked. The door panels are old but servicable.

The nice GS hood is correct for a 1971 Buick GS. It was on the car when I bought and since it looks so good, I have no intention of replacing it with an original style hood.

No, I don't have any spare parts. I got all my parts from either from local wrecking yards or YearOne a supplier of parts for GM A bodies. Check the back of MuscleCAR magazine for additional part sources.

The specs are:
350 ci V8 engine (original, about ready for a rebuild)
    4 barrel QuadraJet carb
    TH400 transmission (not original)
2.73 rear end (10 bolt, no posi)
    Dual exhaust (no headers)

Color: Fire red with white vinyl top
Interior: Pearl white (bucket seats, with center console)
    Options: Air conditioning
              Power brakes (front discs)
              Full gauge set
Right side outside rear view mirror

The clock in the dash doesn't work (surprise) so I've been debating whether to have a quartz movement put in or replace it with the tachometer gauge that was an option.

The following items are non-stock:

  • stereo (I do have a stock radio)
  • wheels and tires
  • hood
  • dual exhaust
  • right side outside mirror
  • TH400 transmission
