Historical Hide & Seek - June 23, 2002
There was a perfectly good reason for hosting this event on a Sunday: post offices are closed Sundays! Since the theme for this years' event took the 54 participants to 12 different gold country post offices, that detail was important.
A total of 28 cars started the rally in El Dorado Hills. In teams of two and three cars, 10 different routes were followed to the end of the rally. Unfortunately, along the way we had one driver become ill and have to drop out and another had to be towed home because of a clutch problem.
The teams visited Shingle Springs, Rescue, Coloma, Lotus, Pilot Hill, Cool, Greenwood, Georgetown, Garden Valley, Camino and Pollock Pines, learning local post office history along the way. The final destination was once a Pony Express Station, Sportman's Hall, where 52 hungry people ate a delicious buffet dinner on the outdoor patio. Even the folks with the clutch problem came in another car to finish off the day with their team.
Eight teams qualified for the grand prize for correctly answering questions along the route. The Purple Team of the DeLaurentis', Counters and Skip Noyes and his guest ended up with compact folding tables as the winners.
The only question that was not answered: what will the theme for next years' rally be?
