Car Club Event Planning Resources - Advertising

Your event won't be very popular if you don't let others know about it. Here's some advertising methods that work for the Sacramento Area Miata Owner's Association. Some of these should work for other clubs as well.

Write up an article so that you get it into at least one edition of the club newsletter before the event takes place. It is generally best to advertise your event two months ahead of time to get a good turnout. Be sure to include the day of the week, date, meeting time, departure time, and pertinent information about the route, destination and any details about prepayment for meals or RSVP deadline, etc. Include contact information, such as home phone number and email address.

SAMOA uses a rating system to give members an idea of the type of driving they'll be doing. Use this or something similar so the participants aren't surprised by the pace you set.

Get the details on your club web site. SAMOA has an on-line Event Notice form to notify the webmaster, event coordinator, and newsletter editor of upcoming events.

Some clubs will advertise events in the local newspaper. This is a good way to attract new members. It is also a way to notify the general public if your event is open to non-club members. Other types of media, like radio stations, may have free public service announcements you could use.
