Here's what happens when you combine a 100 degree day with a new event concept: you get eight cars attending your rally. Well, at the end there were only seven cars. We're still wondering what happened to that last car!

Besides the dismal, er, disappointing turnout, the group enjoyed themselves. At one-minute intervals, the cars left the El Dorado Hills Park-N-Ride for a 60 mile drive through the foothills. The premise of the rally was to locate, as near as possible, the location of 12 sites given in photos that were provided. Participants had to find where the photos were taken and write down their mileage. Whoever gets the closest mileage wins, so the lower the score, the better.

The rally finished at a pizza parlor in Placerville where participants carefully filled out their score cards, subtracting for U-turns and guessing on some of the photos they missed. After pizza and some friendly conversation, the winners were announced:

First Place, with 36 points: Larry & Barbara Penfield Second Place, with 226 points: Clay & Barbara Cowan Third Place, with 255 points: Gene & Jan Leininger

An Honorable Mention goes to Gary Bechtold who scored 260 points. Gary did very well, especially considering he was the only participant driving solo.

Larry and Barbara Penfield's win with only 36 points foretells of an excellent career in rallying. They were the only team to find all of the photos. Barbara said it helped knowing many of the roads and recognizing some of the landmarks in the photos.

We enjoyed putting on this rally and hope more club members will participate next time. They don't know what they missed!
