This is part of my personal Mission Style furniture collection. I'm slowly building complete bedroom set. After I finish the bedroom, I plan to make a couple more Mission Style pieces for the living room.
I built this from rift & plain sawn red oak. The spindles are orientated so that either the straightest grain or the side with rays & flecks are visible. The legs are 4 pieces with a lock-miter joint so all 4 faces are showing the best possible grain.
This project provided a number of challenges. First was simply making all 92 spindles. Then there was the lock-miter joints for the legs. The most difficult part was getting all the spindles in and gluing up the head and foot boards. The spindles are glued in but not for structural reasons, I just wanted to keep them from rattling too much.
Dimensions: Length: 92 inches Width: 82 inches Height: 48 inches (headboard) Height: 36 inches (footboard)
It was stained with my custom mission stain and top coated with a Minwax satin wipe-on polyurethane.
