Car Club Event Planning Resources - The Route

After you know what kind of event you want to put on, you'll need to determine where you're going and how you're going to get there. That's where the route comes in. In some cases you may not have much choice. For instance, a Track Event will be held at a track so the track you choose will define the destination and course. For other types of events, the destination is secondary and it's really the course that matters.

Keep in mind that most events are social in nature so the participants will probably want to socialize at the end. Make sure the destination will accommodate that aspect. For instance, ending an event at a gas station probably isn't a good idea.

Now, how are you going to get there? One of the best ways to start is to take out a good map and look for some promising roads. There are also some good road resources on the Internet (see our Courses area for some that we've found).

Once you have chosen some roads and a destination, go scout them out for yourself. Sometimes what looks good on paper may not work out well as a driving event (roads may turn to dirt, be closed, have heavy construction or be poorly maintained). Also be sure that the final destination, whether it be a park, restaurant or other locale, is suitable for a large group.

Speak to the park staff, restaurant manager or other representative to be sure that parking and reservations are appropriate for the group.

Ask yourself these questions when choosing a route and final destination:
